About Me
Just a little bit about me .....
Angela Law: Luxury Miniature Artisan, Author and Time Traveller
A renowned miniaturist who specialises in 1:12 scale historical furniture and Dollhouse making.
My work includes scratch-built, handmade and re-purposed pieces that reflect many historical periods, including Tudor, Medieval and Georgian; also creating one of a kind fantasy/Objet d'Arts pieces.
I also produce commissioned and one-off pieces for private collectors worldwide. Many of my works can be found featured in magazines, articles and books.
My Skillset
All of my miniatures are handmade. I do not use laser cutters or 3D Printers (this is my personal preference as I feel handmade cannot be replicated. Each handmade piece uniquely and singularily has the warmth and care of the maker within its form).
My skillsets include, Lathe work (Bed Posts/furniture legs etc), Pyrography (combined with Stencil/ink/paint), Carving. The image opposite shows some of my combined Pyrography/stencil and paint/woodstain work with both pieces including an original Italian Renaissance pattern taken (carbon stencil) from an antique wooden box.
I love to explore the castles and great houses of Europe to discover exquisite furnishings and interiors (often with pencil and paper in hand as well as my trusty camera).
I also have an eye for past antiques and discarded woods that can be salvaged and either re-purposed or partnered with my handmade miniatures to create One of a Kind Combinations. This means I can move between fully scratch built, handmade, repurposed and restoration works. I adore rummaging through the internet, flea markets and antique fairs to source materials suitable (often enabling me to use materials dating back as far as the Tudor period).
As a former primary school teacher, I understand and encourage the magic of one's imagination combined with the echoes and remnants of the past, sharing and encouraging a discovery of history through miniatures.
The Story Behind the Name: Dandylion
The name Dandylion is a tribute to our three cats which we had the joy of cohabiting with for between 11 and 21 years.
Each of our cats were what I would call “Dandy”, as they were all in the firm belief that they were Lions of superior status and therefore should be treated accordingly (by all). They were of course correct.
Our first cat (the Dandiest of fellows) was a rescue cat who had been inappropriately named Dandelion (when he was more of a DANDY LION), that it seemed appropriate for me to name my miniatures after him and in doing so honouring all three of our Dandy fellows (who in turn watched over many a miniature project). Look carefully and you may see them represented now and then during your visits to Dandylion Minatures.
